    • Just completed my BSC from MDIS. For info, MDIS sucks...

I've completed my final papers last year and had just got my transcript today, after endless complains and e-mails.  According to my co-ordinator, my transcript was printed and delivered to MDIS in May, but because MDIS needs to check the transcript, I was told that it will only be ready to collect by end August.  What nonsense...

Anyway the administration of MDIS sucks, and they will forever claim you have not paid school fees, even after you show them your receipts.

Please, if you want a smooth, peaceful degree, don't go to MDIS...

    • Ya...I agree MDIS admin sucks. But its lecturers are very good! Im currently biomedical sciences there and I must say im suprised at the standard of the lecturers. All of them holds a PhD in their specialized fields and they all did postdoctoral research overseas such as Oxford, Australia national university, Rutgers. And some of them holds a senior position in some companies. They are here to teach because they have a passion for imparting knowledge to students who really want to learn. E.g. 1 of my lecturer has a wealth of experience in physics and life science. He did his Physics PhD in rutgers university and currently is also a managing director of an IT company. At first I thought they were not credible until I really went to google their published scientific papers and CV. And suprise suprise they are for real~ They are really helpful if you ask them questions or email them. Well, it really depends on urself.

You can be a first class student doing ur BSc in a not-so-good university and distinguish urself or you can be a lousy student studying in harvard and still play all day long. You yourself are the key factor in determining your future.

I may beg to differ on this perception.  Yes I do encounter good lecturers, but I won't say that all are good.  For eg, in my Year 2, I have a lecturer that cannot teach at all.  We petitioned and he was evaluated, with a evaluator sitting in.  The evaluator sat in for less than 10 mins, and that lecturer was replaced since then.  In my year 3, I have an engineering lecturer teaching us "Corporate Image and Branding" because the original lecturer was not available.

Therefore, my conclusion is that the lecturer screening process by MDIS is not thorough and proper at all.

Anyway, the problem doesn't lie in the lecturers as I believe there are bound to be good and bad lecturers everywhere.  But imagine having your lessons at 7pm, and you receive a SMS at 6:30pm saying the class was cancelled? Imagine the school saying you default on tuition fees after you paid thousands of dollars? Imagine having a constantly changing lesson schedule? Imagine waiting for 9 months for your transcript? Imagine having different student co-ordinators every other month? Imagine getting your exam results 1 week before your sub paper? Imagine having notes that falls apart after you bring them home?

I've only did a 2 years degree with MDIS and I have to go through all these.  If you want to enrol in MDIS, especially if you're taking 3 years, there will be more for you.

    • All lecturers hold recognised degrees. At degree level classes and above, lecturers would possess at least a Master’s degree in their areas of teaching. Lecturers and a number of them have PhDs at MDIS. They normally have substantial teaching and work experience so that they could bring to bear theory and practice in class. Lecturers who do not perform well will not have their contracts renewed.

The moderation process is essential and the special dates allotted to Examination Board Meetings are to ensure quality control. The release of results may take some time for the sake of quality assurance. MDIS, however, is committed to further shorten the release of results within a reasonable time-frame.
